The Artwork of Michael Griffin

Michael Griffin is an artist from  Nashville,  TN dedicated to painting landscapes in the plein air (outdoor) tradition.  Having lived nearly two years in Jackson Hole, Wyoming painting the western landscape and studying regional painters, Michael has returned to his home in the South where he creates studio paintings from his travels. The American West, coastal South Carolina, and Tennessee prove his greatest inspirations where he spends a considerable amount of time painting from life.   A rich love for art history and artistic tradition combined with a zest for the outdoors and exploration inform Michael’s artwork. At the age of 26, he received the honor of being accepted into the Arts for the Parks Top 100, a national competition with over 2500 entries that recognizes those artists who have best represented  America ’s National Parks. The Top 100 including Michael’s painting “Atop Death Canyon” from  Grand Teton National Park was on a nationwide tour of select museums and galleries from September ‘05 through September ‘06.   Look on to learn more about the artist and to view a sampling of his artwork.

In the September 2009 issue of Southwest Art, Michael and his artwork were featured in their annual article 21 Under 31. Each year, Southwest Art selects 21 artists under the age of 31 nationwide that they believe have a promising future in the world of art.
