The Artwork of Michael Griffin
Michael
Griffin is a 31 year old, artist from Nashville, TN dedicated to painting landscapes in the plein
air (outdoor) tradition. Having lived nearly two years in
Jackson Hole, Wyoming painting the western landscape and studying regional
painters, Michael has returned to his home in the South where he creates
studio paintings from his travels. The American West, coastal South
Carolina, and Tennessee prove his greatest inspirations where he spends a
considerable amount of time painting from life." A rich love for art history and artistic tradition combined with a zest
for the outdoors and exploration inform Michael’s artwork. At
the age of 26, he received the honor of being accepted into the Arts
for the Parks Top 100, a national competition with over 2500 entries that
recognizes those artists who have best represented America ’s National Parks. The Top 100 including Michael’s painting “Atop
Death Canyon” from Grand Teton National Park was on a nationwide tour of select museums and galleries from
September ‘05 through September ‘06. Michael was recently accepted as a
member of Oil Painters of America. Look on to learn more about the

 In the September
2009 issue of Southwest Art, Michael and his artwork will be featured in
their annual article 21 Under 31. Each year, Southwest Art selects 21
artists under the age of 31 nationwide that they believe have a promising
future in the world of art. Also, three of Michael's paintings, "Oxbow
Bend," "Death Canyon Crest," and "Phelps Lake," were chosen as part of Paint
the Parks Top 100 (honoring representational painting of America's National
Parks) and will be on a national tour for the upcoming year. |
